Building Progressive Voter Power

The demographics in Ventura County and other regions of California have become more favorable to progressive policy reform, meaningful victories at the polls will continue to be unattainable until progressive-leaning voters are engaged, educated, and mobilized so that they turn out to vote at the same rates as conservative voters.

Furthermore, while communities of color along the Central Coast continue to experience higher levels of poverty, unemployment and greater direct impacts of cuts in state funded essential services, these communities, including the region’s growing Latino population, have relatively little voice in policies directly affecting their lives — a condition most demonstrated in extremely low voter turnout.

CAUSE is therefore committed to increasing civic engagement and voter participation in low-income communities, with an emphasis on youth and newly naturalized citizens of the Central Coast region through voter education, voter registration and get-out-the vote activities linking voter turnout in local elections with long-term neighborhood organizing and statewide policy reform campaigns.
