Decades of global economic restructuring and free trade agreements that have sent millions of US jobs overseas, coupled with the massive loss of jobs, a result of the current global economic crisis, have had a devastating impact on the lives of working families nationally and throughout our Central Coast region. As conservative lawmakers have sought to capitalize on these dire economic conditions in an effort to slash essential social programs, education, and good paying public sector jobs, the nation continues to lack a concerted national job creation policy.
Having led the regional economic justice campaign from 2001 – 2008 that brought about the adoption of five living wage ordinances along the California Central Coast, CAUSE continues to conduct research, and advocate and organize for policies to increase and maintain a higher standard of living for the region’s working families, including policies that promote tax and fiscal reform, protect living wage middle class jobs, and generate new good paying green jobs. CAUSE’s working families justice campaigns include the promotion of effective community economic development and the organizing of a community and labor coalition toward the adoption of local hire agreements for local public and private construction developments.
