Hazel Davalos is the Community Organizing Director at the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE). She was raised in Santa Maria, CA. She graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Women’s Studies, where she led student organizing efforts around racial equality and LGBTQ community. During high school Hazel participated in Future Leaders of America and Just Communities, both youth leadership organizations and she also served on the grant-making committee of a local foundation called the Fund for Santa Barbara. Before joining CAUSE staff, Hazel worked 6 years for PUEBLO, a sister organization that eventually merged with CAUSE in 2013. At CAUSE Hazel has organized around immigrants’ rights, voter mobilization, public transit, environmental justice, education, affordable housing, and youth issues. She now works as CAUSE’s Community Organizing Director, training organizers in base building through the house meeting model. Hazel is based out of Santa Maria, CA. Outside of work Hazel sits on the board for SBCAN (Santa Barbara County Action Network) and plays on a women’s indoor soccer team.
