The Santa Maria Chapter of CAUSE (at the time known as PUEBLO) won a major victory in 2012 to fight off the placement of a hazardous metal scrapyard in the middle of a low-income Latino neighborhood.
Over 500 people marched for immigrants’ rights across the Central Coast on May 1st, calling on Congress to create a roadmap to citizenship for the 110,000 undocumented immigrants in Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties who aspire to become citizens.
In Guadalupe and Oxnard, students and parents from communities that have long been under-served organized to win school bus service so that youth can travel to school safely.
Thanks to the Santa Maria chapter's parent committee, schools in Santa Maria will soon be more accessible to immigrant families with the removal of the school district's fingerprint policy.
