Raul Lopez
Community Organizer: Oxnard

Raul is a life-long resident of Oxnard, from a field working family that has migrated and worked these lands for generations. The life of a campesino runs in Raul’s blood, from his Bracero grandparents to his own work in the fields during childhood.  Living in an area where gang violence was prevalent, Raul witnessed death at a young age.  At 12 years old, Raul began to volunteer for community-based nonprofits to remove himself from being pulled into the wrong path.  This opened opportunities to expand his learning into passions like art, music, video production and community investment.  Raul helped found The Lab, a creative studio with an open door policy for community members, artists and musicians to collaborate, organize, offer resources, and create a space for expression.  Raul worked for Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) for the community building and neighborhood revitalization division with low-income families and at-risk youth to create events such as The 805 Youth Exchange, engaging hundreds of local youth in interactive and educational workshops.  Raul also worked for the Academy of Healing Arts (AHA!) in Santa Barbara, as a social and emotional intelligence youth facilitator to provide youth a safe space to speak about issues troubling them and build confidence and critical thinking skills.   Raul took 2 years off to focus on giving all his time to raising his 3 children, knowing the importance of parent involvement in child development and social and emotional wellness to prepare them for the future.  Now that Raul’s children are school age, Raul has found a home at CAUSE as the Oxnard Community Organizer.
