Alejandra Melgoza
Community Organizer: Santa Barbara

Alejandra was born and raised in Hayward, California also known as the heart of the bay. She is the daughter of immigrant parents from the central region of Mexico. Throughout her youth, her passion for social justice grew as she started an annual fundraiser for undocumented students at her high school campus, served as a Hayward Youth Commissioner, and helped start the first M.E.C.H.A chapter at her high school.

She then moved to the central coast where she began attending the University of California Santa Barbara. During her time there she was involved in various extra-curricular activities including M.U.J.E.R which dedicates itself to motivating and mentoring local high school youth who identify as women to attend higher education. She made awareness about the housing insecurity students were facing in the surrounding area and even more so the local latinx families that were being displaced in Isla Vista. Towards the end of her under-graduate career she wrote her honors thesis on the impact the university had on the surrounding community and how it had a personal responsibility to support local latinx youth into higher education.

Alejandra currently works as the community organizer for CAUSE in Santa Barbara, CA.
