Civic Engagement Coordinator                           


Founded in 2001, CAUSE's mission is to build grassroots power to advance social, economic and environmental justice for the people of the Ventura and Santa Barbara counties region through policy research, leadership development, organizing, and advocacy.



CAUSE is currently seeking an Civic Engagement Coordinator who will work closely with the Civic Engagement Program (CEP) Director to develop our voter outreach strategy and volunteer recruitment plan for year round voter engagement. At least twice each year, they will support the CEP Lead in supervising, managing and training a paid Civic Engagement team who will be making calls and going door to door to educate voters on different issues. They will be responsible for making follow up calls to voters that have joined our We Are CA program. The Civic Engagement Coordinator also will engage in in-depth organizing conversations with voters around key CAUSE campaigns with the goal of encouraging voters to get involved locally in our campaigns and organizing efforts. This position is a full time temporary position until the end of 2022. With strong funding possibilities, the position will likely become a full time permanent position beginning in 2023. The Position reports to the CEP lead and will largely work out of CAUSE’s Oxnard office.


The Civic Engagement Coordinator responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Hire, train and supervise a paid team of phone and door to door canvassers

  • Lead the follow up outreach to voters who are interested in getting involved with CAUSE and the We Are CA program

  • Attend regular statewide California Calls and field team meetings representing CAUSE

  • Participate in weekly city-based team meetings as appropriate

  • Represent the organization in regional and/or statewide voting tables

  • Participating in some grassroots fundraising, grant writing and reporting

  • Conduct regular employee and program evaluations


Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required at a level of proficiency to develop raps and review Spanish language publications for accessibility

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent required

  • 1+ years of  experience working to engage voters

  • Experience with and desire to work with diverse cultures and the ability to engage people from a variety of backgrounds

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Able to set own work priorities, manage responsibilities and time

  • Flexibility and willingness to sometimes work long hours and weekends, and be able to travel throughout region, state and nation.

  • Be able to develop trainings and materials.

  • Be able to read spreadsheets to track numerical goals and identify where further training is needed.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Be able to clearly articulate our organizing and campaign goals to voters in an inspiring way.

  • Be able to listen for cues from voters - what moves them, what do they care about, etc. and direct the conversation toward them taking local action.

  • Be able to connect with various audiences and build connections/relationships.

  • Must be able to record voter responses, notes, schedules on our voter outreach platforms.

Valid drivers’ license and dependable access to a car to drive for work required.



This position will  include evening and weekend work.  



Starting pay for this full time temporary hourly position is $24/hour through the end of 2022. Compensation includes paid holidays, vacation, sick time and comprehensive health benefits including medical and dental, as well as an annual retirement contribution, monthly stipend for use of cellphone and travel. There is a strong possibility this position will become a permanent full time position beginning in 2023.
