Community Organizer: Santa Maria
Yesenia was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and grew up in Guadalupe, California. She is near graduation from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, majoring in Psychology with a minor in childhood studies. She plans to become an academic counselor for college students with a focus in career counseling. During her two years at Allan Hancock College, she became involved with student government and served as president of the DREAM Club and Student Trustee on the Community College Board of Trustees. She successfully fought to create a DREAM Center on campus, alongside the hard work and dedication of her peers. This showed Yesenia that there is power in people’s voices and that action must be taken, and that change is possible when you join forces and work together towards a common goal. This experience helpig nuestra gente inspired her to work in a field where she can help advocate for the needs of the people and create change in our community. With the many injustices that happen in our community, Yesenia is ready to see change happen. La unión es la fuerza!
