Subject: Support Stronger Tenant Protections for Ventura Renters
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
As a renter in Ventura, I’m asking you to take action to strengthen tenant protections in our city. For years, the housing crisis has made it harder for residents to stay in their homes, with skyrocketing rents, predatory landlord practices, and weak enforcement of existing protections leaving many vulnerable to displacement. Without strong action from city leaders, long-standing community members—families, seniors, and essential workers—are being pushed out, forced to leave behind their jobs, schools, and support networks.
To ensure working families can stay in Ventura, I urge you to support:
Better Housing Protections: Renters need a way to hold landlords accountable when they ignore housing laws. The city should have a dedicated resource to make sure families aren’t taken advantage of or forced out unfairly.
Legal Help for Tenants: No one should lose their home simply because they can’t afford a lawyer. Ventura should provide free legal support to tenants facing unfair rent hikes or evictions—just like other cities have done—to keep families housed.
A Fair and Transparent Rental System: A rental registry would help the city track rent increases and evictions, ensuring renters are treated fairly. This would help stop unfair practices and keep housing affordable for the long run.
Ventura’s workforce deserves housing stability. We work hard to keep this city running, and we need our elected leaders to stand with us in securing strong, enforceable tenant protections.
Thank you for your time and leadership on this important issue.
Sincerely,
